Newcastle Knights Could Play Out of Town for Home Games
Friday April 3, 2009
Newcastle Knights NRL Football Club may soon look for another venue to play home games due to a disagreement about licence fees over the use of Newcastle's Energy Australia Stadium.
The clash began after the Hunter Venues Authority issued the Newcastle Knights with a default notice for $792,000 in unpaid debts for the use of the ground.
"I would like to think that wise heads will prevail, but if they [the Hunter Venues Authority] make it too hard for us to play there, or if we go to arbitration and they decide against us, then we might have to consider other venues," Mr Burraston told the Newcastle Herald on Tuesday evening.
"We might have to look at relocating to Bluetongue [Stadium, at Gosford], or playing at one of those other stadiums that are prepared to pay teams to play at their venues, in order for us to survive."
