Newcastle Grammar School Students Put in Mighty Effort for Fundraiser
Friday March 6, 2009
The Newcastle Grammar students' coats, shirts and ties have been replaced with Tanzanian-themed polo T-shirts that they have been wearing every Friday since October last year.
Money was also raised through a program called 'Phones for Farkwa' by donating old accessories, mobile phones and batteries for recycling.
As part of the World Vision School to School program, they have not yet reached their goal of raising $150,000.
While World Vision was able to help build a high school in Farkwa in 2004, there is still an eed for three boarding houses for students to study and live comfortably.
"Once hearing about the work World Vision had been doing in Tanzania to continually boost the quality of education available, we decided to embark on this project," Principal Alan Green said in a Newcastle Herald report.
"This is not just a fund-raising initiative, but an educational project encouraging our students to be more globally aware, globally minded and globally supportive," Newcastle Grammar's Mr Green said.
